CORFU. Municipality crews busy with preparations.

Municipal crews have been busy getting the decorations ready and putting fountains that haven't been working for about twenty years back into operation.

Corfu Town will 'light up' tonight for the festive period in an effort to lift people's spirits at this time of restrictions due to the pandemic that everyone is going through.

The crews are also working daily repairing pavements and cleaning throughout the Municipality. Broken lamps and damaged lampposts are also being replaced and repaired.

Maintenance work was also carried out last week on ten school buildings. Repair work was carried out in Kamara and on benches in the Psychiatric Hospital square as well as road markings throughout the town.

The fountain in San Rocco Square will be working again after about twenty years of inoperation. A lot of work had to go into the fountain replacing old and damaged parts due to years of non-use and lack of maintenance. Attention has now turned to the other fountains in order to beautify the town.

Work was carried out on lighting last week in the area around the New Fortress, San Rocco and of course Christmas lighting. Work was also carried out in Kanalia, Kinopiastes, Kalafationes, Sinarades and Doukades.

The Municipal Green Service has been busy working in the Upper and Lower Squares as well as other parts of town such as Methodiou St., Agios Spyridon Square (Plakada) and several schools. The crews also pruned trees throughout the town.
