CORFU. The North Corfu priest remains intubated - PCR test equipment not working - 8 of the sample tests sent to Ioannina come back positive.
One of the two patients intubated in Corfu Hospital ICU passed away early on Friday morning, 30 October. The patient was a British woman who had been hospitalised for the last two weeks.
The second patient, a priest from North Corfu, remains intubated. There are another seven patients hospitalised in the special Infectious Diseases Wing of the hospital.
For the last few days the hospital has been unable to analyse samples for Covid-19 as the only machine of three at the hospital which was able to do the tests has suffered a malfunction.
According to information, the PCR equipment had problems due to its frequent use. The other two machines which were donated to the hospital aren't in use as there aren't reagents.
It is expected that the machine will be repaired soon but until then samples from Corfu are being sent to Ioannina and Athens. Of the samples that have been sent to Ioannina, eight returned positive for Covid-19 today.
