Ionian Islands Regional Administration successfully carried out the 2nd distribution of food and basic necessities to those eligible in the FEAD (Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived) Programme.
The distribution took place at Eth. Pelekas 5km (opposite the pharmaceutical storage unit) whilst adhering to all COVID-19 safety measures.
There were over 800 eligible families who received foodstuffs, fresh food (cheese, meat), household goods and personal hygiene items. The fresh food that was left over was given to Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal food bank and the Church.
The programme was coordinated by the Deputy Regional Governor for Social Welfare, Public Health & Employment Kostas Zorbas, who was present at the distribution point on both days to oversee the whole operation.
"Despite the unprecedented situation due to the pandemic," said Mr. Zorbas, "we were able to go ahead with the 2nd distribution of food and basic necessities in Corfu. This is a significant community service supporting those in difficulty at this time."
There will be a further distribution in July and those eligible will be informed of details.
