CORFU. Following last night΄s fire, Temploni landfill will remain closed on the recommendation of Fire Chief Nikos Kolovos and will temporarily not be accepting refuse.
Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor and FODSA President Meropi Ydraiou congratulated all those involved in the excellent response and extinguishing of the fire that broke out at Temploni landfill last night.
Ms. Ydraiou said that the readiness of the Fire Department and Civil Protection Service was exemplary - the firefighters and equipment along with the FODSA and Municipal vehicles all played a crucial role and the coordination of human resources and equipment was excellent, leading to the efficient handling of the incident.
"I consider it a miracle and a huge success," she said, "that they were able to get this kind of fire, which broke out in the waste by the waste baler, completely under control in just a few hours. Everyone deserves warm congratulations. Congratulations must also go to the Fire Chief for the impeccable coordination of the operation, the Regional Director and the bravery of those that fought the fire."
