CORFU. The seamen have written to the Ministry to request a water ambulance to cover the needs of the Ionian Islands.

The Corfu, Paxos & Diapontia Islands Seamen's Union has written to the Ministry of Health to request one of its water ambulances.

"With regard to the provision of water ambulances to cover the needs of islands during the pandemic we would like to request a water ambulance for our islands in order to upgrade the quality of health services available in the area.

As you know, Corfu coronavirus cases are transferred to Ioannina University Hospital and number of transfers from Corfu General Hospital to mainland hospitals, mainly Ioannina, is approximately 260 every year.

With the tourist season coming up and the increased number of people here the needs of Paxos and the Diapontia Islands Othoni, Erikoussa and Mathraki also need to be covered.

We are sure that you will give our legitimate request your attention and will provide the appropriate solution in order to ensure that resident and visitors to the islands feel safe."
