Air tickets will be more expensive if seats have to remain empty

Businesses, organisations and trade unions are concerned about the costs lying ahead. Countries are gradually lifting the lockdown measures.

- Europe is celebrating the 75th Victory in Europe Anniversary but without events as all countries still want to avoid public gatherings. Governments, including the UK, have called on people not to ignore the lockdown and social distancing during the celebration.

- The daily number of new coronavirus cases in Russia is over 10,000 for the sixth day running, although the 10,699 on Friday is a decrease from the 11,231 on Thursday. The country now has a total of 187,859 cases and with 98 new fatalities the death toll is 1,723.

- In the third phase of lifting lockdown measures in Denmark cinemas, museums and fun fairs will be able to reopen on 8 June.

- The Portuguese Finance Minister Mario Centeno said that unemployment in the country may reach 10% by the end of the year due to the pandemic.

- Portugal has also extended the temporary ban on eviction which was due to end on 3 June.



- The British rapper Ty has died of coronavirus aged 47.

- Trading insolvency in Britain decreased by one third in April compared to the same period last year as the government's support packages are keeping businesses afloat during the pandemic.

- Beaches in Barcelona opened from 06:00 to 10:00 on Friday and the Spanish Government announced in which areas bars, restaurants and places of worship can operate as lockdown measures are relaxed.

- IATA has warned that prices will increase if the middle seats in aircraft remain empty in compliance with social distancing. The Association recommends adopting the use of face masks on flights.
