LONDON. Less stress, clean air, less noise and, of course, social distancing is the model for the post-lockdown period. The circumstances present Ms. Ydraiou΄s local authority with an excellent opportunity not to return to pre-coronavirus conditions.

The local authorities in major cities which have been hit hard by coronavirus are planning to reduce traffic and pollution. Maybe it is something that we should also consider?

Milan is planning to avoid a return to previous levels of traffic pollution when the crisis is over. The city in Lombardy, which was hit hard by coronavirus, is going to transform 35km into cyclist and pedestrian areas.

According to the Guardian, the city has announced that 35km (22 miles) will be transformed over the summer in a quick experimental project to turn the city into a cyclist and pedestrian precinct for the residents' protection once the lockdown measures have been lifted.

Pierfrancesco Maran, one of Milan's Deputy Mayors, said: "Previously we were planning for 2030 but now we are naming this new phase 2020. Instead of thinking about the future, we need to think about the present."

In the UK on Monday, Brighton started to open a section of the promenade, Madeira Drive, only for pedestrians and cyclists from 8am to 8pm. In Barnes, London businesses and residents have extended the pedestrian area outside the markets in order to help customers maintain distances between one another.

Dublin has suspended the use of loading and unloading areas as well as parking areas in order to increase space for social distancing using plastic barriers.
