CORFU. The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Cleansing Service disinfected the public areas in Evropoulos last night.
The decision to disinfect the public areas in the district was taken following the announcement of the first confirmed coronavirus case in Corfu.
Deputy Mayor for Cleansing Yiannis Seremetis told Enimerosi that the cleansing of public and much-frequented areas began last week with a Municipal tank truck cleaning squares, benches, litter bins etc with a bleach solution to prevent the build-up of germs in much-frequented areas. The area surrounding Corfu Hospital has also been disinfected in collaboration with the Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis.
When it was made known that the coronavirus patient was a resident of Evropoulos and there was concern from other residents there the Cleansing Service cleaned pavements, bins and the square.
Yiannis Seremetis said that cleansing will continue unabated and central areas will be done repeatedly. He added that requests have been received from other areas in the Central Corfu Municipality and they will make every effort to cover them.
