CORFU. The Municipal Daily Life Issues Department is distributing information leaflets.

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is placing emphasis on disinfecting outdoor areas, such as the open-air market, these days whilst continuing the disinfection of indoor areas.

At the same time, the Daily Life Issues Department has been closing children's playgrounds and outdoor sports areas as there were instances of members of the public ignoring the guidelines and using the spaces.

Special crews disinfected the open-air market and the Civil Protection Department along with volunteers have been distributing leaflets with information about how to protect oneself against coronavirus.

Leaflets were also distributed to sellers in the market and they were asked to adhere to all the protection measures and clean and disinfect their areas regularly. There was a special appeal to senior citizens, mainly customers, to follow the guidelines for their own safety and protection. Employees from the Municipal Daily Life Issues Department placed tape so that customers won't come into contact with the producers.

In the coming days outdoor areas, roads and pavements will be cleaned and disinfected by the Municipality, whilst today Civil Protection employees along with volunteers distributed information leaflets in the centre of town.

As regards the prohibited use of children's playgrounds and outdoor sports facilities, which was announced by the days ago, the Municipality is now sealing off these areas - tapes have been placed in Bosketo, Anemomylo, Garitsa, Kastellani Mesi, Alykes, Liapades, Skripero, Doukades, Alepou and other areas.

Deputy Mayor Haris Yiotis said, "We have spent a lot of time this week sealing off outdoor sports facilities and children's playgrounds. We are appealing to the public to respect the order not to use these facilities. We will continue with inspections, but we ask people to cease using these places as the employees and volunteers need to be used in other essential work. I would like to add that we have updated all the Community Presidents in the Municipality.

Our efforts are being directed to tackle the needs efficiently - whether it be to protect the public from coronavirus or other everyday needs."
