Man, 66, with coronavirus dies at Patras Hospital

PATRAS. The 66-year-old had heart problems and was admitted to the ICU following complications caused by coronavirus. He had been infected while on a trip to the Holy Land.

Manolis Agiomiryiannakis, retired maths teacher and Regional Councillor in Western Greece, had been admitted to the University Hospital in Rio on 2 March.

Initially he was put in the negative pressure room at Patras Hospital and was tubed up on 6 March.

On the morning of 10 March there was a significant deterioration in his condition leading to multi-organ failure and eventually, despite the doctors' efforts, his death at 03:15 this morning, Thursday 12 March.

The 66-year-old was one of a group of people who returned from a trip to the Holy Land and tested positive for coronavirus.

Ministry of Health statement:

"This is to announce the first fatality from the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in Greece. The 66-year-old Greek citizen with underlying medical conditions was admitted to the Negative Pressure Room at Patras General Hospital on 2 March and was tubed up on 6 March. On the morning of 10 March there was a significant deterioration in his condition leading to multi-organ failure and eventually, despite the doctors' efforts, his death at 03:15 this morning, Thursday 12 March."
