CORFU. Reports in British tabloid website not true.
All of a sudden there has been alarm in the Greek media about the cruise ship arriving in Corfu and an alleged case of coronavirus. The cruise company's agent told Enimerosi (Wednesday 4/3 at 20:00) that there has been no such report from the shipowners and the ship and that there is no confirmation of what has been reported in the website of a British tabloid.
According to the announcement from Corfu Port Authority: "There are 1,1572 passengers on board the ship enjoying the 11th day of their cruise and there are no suspected cases of coronavirus - there have been thorough inspections by the health authorities and the shipping company. In any case, in addition to the measures being taken by the cruise company Corfu Port Authority is in constant contact with the responsible health authorities, Corfu Central Port Authority, the Ionian Islands Regional Administration and the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality and is strictly following the guidelines from the National Public Health Organisation (EODY). It should also be noted that whenever a ship docks the ship's health authority issues a certificate of health for all those on board."
The announcement from Corfu Port Authority came after the ship had left Piraeus and also after what was published in the British website regarding the passengers' stay in Athens.
Corfu Port Authority Cruise Director Aris Batsoulis told Enimerosi that the cruise ship will be arriving in Corfu at 16:30 and the latest news was that all was well on board.
