CORFU. The announcement from the Health Minister is not legally-binding and according to Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor, the events (in open spaces) in Corfu will go ahead as planned unless there is a Ministerial decision forbidding them.

The Corfu Carnival is now in the hands of the Minister for Health Vassilis Kikilias.

The Minister made an announcement in which he issued a guideline to all local authorities to cancel their carnival events for precautionary reasons following confirmation of the third case of coronavirus in Greece.

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor Meropi Ydraiou stated that the Minister's announcement was not legally-binding and that her intention is that all the events in open spaces go ahead as planned.

However, Meropi Ydraiou told Enimerosi (at 14:30) that there is a meeting in progress at the Ministry for Health which may well lead to a Ministerial Decision to cancel all carnival events throughout the country.

With a Ministerial Decision all Mayors will be obliged to cancel the events. In this case, Meropi Ydraiou will also be obliged to obey the Ministerial Decision and cancel all the events in this year's Corfu Carnival.
