CORFU. More improvements from the outgoing Hospital Administration - in the Oncology Unit and other parts of the hospital.
Right up to his final day in charge of Corfu General Hospital it seems that Director Phivos Kakavitsas wants to leave his mark with some final improvements.
There may be a new incoming Administration under the Directorship of Leonidas Roubatis but that hasn't stopped the outgoing Administration from making improvements to the hospital on a daily basis.
With the completion of improvements to the Oncology Unit, the Administration issued a press release in which Phivos Kakavitsas says the following:
"With the aid of donors the improvements to the new Oncology Unit have been completed. Multiple televisions have been set up in the wards to allow all patients undergoing chemotherapy to have an 'escape' from their difficult situation.
Paintings have also been put up to break the monotony of the white walls. The aim is to improve the hospitalisation of this especially vulnerable group of patients.
The Oncology Unit was moved to a previously unused wing on the 3rd floor in 2019. This allowed us to double the number of beds and to find the space to set up a modern dialysis unit for the cytostatic drugs used in therapy.
Two dialysis units were set up here and are now operational - to prevent any possibility of failures leading to the disruption of therapy.
A special waiting area was also created on the same floor for the clinic's patients (with its own separate air conditioning, television etc.) to lessen any discomfort patients may be feeling during their wait but mainly to ensure privacy.
With the completion of work in the wards all the improvements that were planned for the clinic have now been completed.
At the end of December 2019 work was completed on the area previously occupied by the Oncology Clinic on the ground floor and in addition to the Diabetes Clinic that has been in operation for the last six months, there are now additional doctors' offices for the Emergency Department as well as sleeping quarters for those on duty.
Finally, a long-term demand from radiology personnel has been satisfied with the improvement in working conditions in the area where the new CAT Scanner was installed (and the area next to it where the second 64-section scanner will be installed).
A partition has been constructed to separate the CAT Scanner from the rest of the Radiology Unit."
