CORFU. The first Greek tour of internationally recognised Corfu artist Spyros Gelekas΄ Middle Earth exhibition has ended successfully.
The exhibition presented works from the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion.
The exhibition - under the aegis of the Greek Society of Tolkien Lovers 'The Prancing Pony' - was dedicated to the Middle Earth with the artist's own inspiration and toured for three months, taking in four large cities - Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa and Thebes.
The exhibition received a warm reception with over 5,000 visitors and dozens of interviews for TV, magazines, radio and fantasy zines.
The highlight of the Middle Earth collection was 'The Sacred Path of Milkwood' which was judged one of the best works of 2019 in the Pébéo, Mixed Media Art Prize and Exhibition Competition. The competition was at one of the best galleries in London, the Menier Gallery, and the judging panel comprised the elite of artists Said Dokins, FRAKONE, Young-sungKim, και Nancy Wood.
Previously, the same work had been part of a group exhibition with 17 Greek artists 'Kaleidoscope' at The Attic Gallery organised by Paris Kapralos and Sasa Chaitow. It was also presented at Art Freaks Global.
In Thebes the artist presented Thebes Town Hall with his work 'The Beacons Are Lit' as a token of his gratitude and as a symbol of cooperation and cultural exchange.
The exhibition closed on December 15 in Athens, where the artist's work on Middle Earth was presented at an evening dedicated to Tolkien organised by Reflections with well-known publishing houses, authors and narrators.
The second part of the tour will continue in 2020 in Greece and the rest of Europe with the last stop being Corfu at the end of the year.
