Retrospective exhibition in memory of artist Stefanos Andreas Michalopoulos (1949–2025)
CORFU. 4-24 February at Corfu Art Gallery.
A retrospective exhibition in memory of the Corfiot painter Stefanos Andreas Michalopoulos (1949–2025) is opening at the Corfu Art Gallery on Wednesday, 4 February at 19:00.
Stefanos Andreas Michalopoulos was a multifaceted and sensitive artist with a strong social consciousness. Through his rich and intense colour palette, he externalised his emotions, fantasies, and visions, reflecting a dreamlike, mythological world in which past, present, and future merge.
Throughout his artistic career, he developed a personal idiom and painting style, drawing primarily on elements from the artistic movements of Symbolism, Surrealism, and Magical Realism.
His principal means of expression was oil painting, with works ranging in size from small-scale paintings to large compositions reaching up to ten metres in length.
The present exhibition constitutes a tribute to the painter Stefanos Michalopoulos. It will be held in the temporary exhibitions hall of the Corfu Art Gallery and will present selected works spanning the entirety of his artistic career.
The exhibition is coordinated by the Artistic Committee of the Corfu Art Gallery, with the historical curation undertaken by Sofiana Draganigou.
It seeks to preserve the memory and artistic vision of Stefanos Andreas Michalopoulos, inviting the public into a space of reflection, emotional engagement, and encounter with his work.
We are obliged to highlight the artistic legacy of this painter, as it leaves a lasting imprint for future generations and contributes to the historical prominence of our town. His painting draws from post-Renaissance Italian culture and represents, for our region, a new form of artistic research for contemporary artists.
