CORFU. The hospital administration has announced the recruitment of two new auxuliary doctors - an opthalmologist and a paediatrician. The number of specialist doctors has now increased by 25% since 2016.
Corfu General Hospital has announced the recruitment of two new auxiliary doctors - an opthalmologist and a paediatrician. This takes the number of specialist doctors at the hospital to 100 - an increase of 25% since January 1 2016.
Hospital press release:
"Recognising the problem of long waiting times for the out-patient opthalmology clinic (the longest at the hospital), the hospital administration requested from the 6th Regional Health Department that another specialist opthalmologist be appointed in order to increase the number of days available for out-patient examination and decrease the waiting time.
We are now able to announce the appointment of this new doctor - the second new auxiliary doctor in the opthalmology department in the last three years. The department now has four specialist doctors, in line with the department's recommendation.
The new doctor is expected to take up his position by the end of the year along with a new auxiliary paediatrician.
This will take the number of specialist paediatricians up to six - the largest number that the department has ever had. This appointment is especially significant bearing in mind the state of the paediatric department four years ago when there were only two specialists and the local community's efforts to prevent the closure of the department.
These new appointments take the number of specialist doctors at the hospital up to 100 - an increase of 25% since January 1 2016 - and the re-appointment of three more auxiliary doctors has been requested, with approval expected by the end of the year."
