The great success of the ICONA 2019 Festival reinforces the desire of the Department of Audiovisual Arts to hold the event annually following its educational and research activities in the field of animation.
The CIAK project, which receives funding of 900,000 Euros from the InterregV –A Greece-Italy Programme 2014-2020, aims to strengthen the audiovisual network in the participating Greek regions (Ionian Islands, Western Greece and Epirus) with specific educational activities aimed at industry professionals, to fund audiovisual products and to organise screenings (festivals) in each of the regions. This support will have a positive impact on the local economy, employment and tourism.
The Ionian University participates in the CIAK project with the Department of Audiovisual Arts under Associate Professor Michalis Panagopoulos, which has undertaken the organisation of educational activities and the ICONA Festival.
The other Greek partners are the Ionian Islands, Western Greece and Epirus Regional Administrations and the senior partner is the Apulia Film Commission Foundation from Italy.
