CORFU. Hospital website to be enhanced allowing electronic ordering of examinations by clinics, doing away with printing of examination results and use of tablets by doctors on their visits.

On 15 November the upgrading of the hospital website on a new server was completed. The new site is more user-friendly and now allows the electronic booking of outpatient appointments. The app for appointments is expected to be available shortly.

No more handwritten referrals

The Hospital Administration has also announced that the purchase and installation of barcode scanners has now been completed as well as barcode printers in all the clinics. So since last week all the hospital patients' lab examinationss requested by doctors are now ordered electronically and handwritten requests and referrals to the labs have been done away with completely. In this way it is now possible for the hospital to receive immediate compensation from EOPYY (National Organization for the Provision of Health Services) as the hospital system has now been linked to IDIKA (Social Security eGovernance).

In practical terms this means that a doctor doesn't need to write out a separate referral each time - one for the hospital and one for the IDIKA electronic prescription system - leading to huge savings in costs and time and allowing for easier checking of the examinations and avoidance of possible time-wasting and abuse.

Use of tablets by doctors on patient visits

To completely do away with printing and the huge use of paper, the hospital administration has now put the purchase of tablets for all the clinics out to tender.

It should be noted that for the last two years the hospital has already done away with the printing of X-rays. With the purchase of the tablets, doctors on their daily hospital rounds will be able to directly access the examination results of each patient whilst at their bedside and add information to their electronic file.

The purchase of the tablets and the complete abolition of printed examination results is expected to be completed in the next three months.
