CORFU. It΄s just a matter of time (latest report 11:00 this morning) for the 41-year-old who since last night has been trapped in the ravine near Mourgada, Korakiana to be rescued.

According to Regional Fire Chief Andreas Rizos, the 41-year-old man was fortunate in that when he fell he was caught in a hollow in the rocks, which saved his life - there was a drop of at least 10 metres below him!

Mr. Rizos told Enimerosi that due to the rock formation where he was trapped the man, Nikos Reggis, was sheltered from the strong winds and downpour and thus able to maintain speaking contact with rescuers from the Fire Service.

All that remains now is for the rescuers to pull up the trapped man with special straps and safety harnesses - he cannot be reached due to the sharp drop below Nikos Reggis.

Fortunately, he is in good health apart from the ordeal he has been through, shock plus an injury to his arm which he has told his rescuers about. Since yesterday rescuers have been talking with him and giving him water.

A team from the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) from Ioannina arrived in Corfu this morning and will work alongside the Regional and Local Fire Chiefs Andreas Rizos and Yiannis Zamanis to free the trapped 41-year-old.
