CORFU. Corfu General Hospital is also expecting the arrival of a new ultrasound scanner worth 32,000 Euros for the Maternity Clinic shortly - also donated by the Port Authority.
Corfu Port Authority presented the hospital with a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine for the Artificial Kidney Unit yesterday (30/9). Hospital Director Phivos Kakavitsas and Port Authority Director Vasso Martzoukou held a press conference today.
"Corfu General Hospital received a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine yesterday (30/9) which was donated by Corfu Port Authority for the hospital's Artificial Kidney Unit. Our hospital is now one of the few in Greece (and perhaps the only regional hospital) whose Kidney Unit has this equipment.
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis is considered to be the most widely used method to measure body chemistry due to its safety, exceptional precision, low cost and ease of use - it can even be used at the patient's home.
Measurement is easy, non-intrusive and can be done in no more than 2 minutes. In this way, the doctor can give important information to patients undergoing dialysis.
Patients can also obtain useful information regarding their dietary requirements. This information can be useful for patients being discharged from hospital, especially after a long period of hospitalisation. Especially in nephrology, where nutrition and hydration are directly linked with chronic kidney disease, malnutrition and dehydration are basic prognostic factors.
At this point we have to give warm thanks to the outgoing President and CEO of Corfu Port Authority Mr. Stefanidis who, in the few years he has had this position has helped significantly with expensive equipment for our hospital. I would like to remind you of the donation of artificial kidney equipment in 2017, equipment for the Kidney Unit in 2018, the donation of an ultrasound scanner in 2019 and today's Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machine.
It should be pointed out that this isn't the last donation from the outgoing Port Authority board to the hospital. Last week Corfu Hospital, Corfu Port Authority and a private company signed a contract and placed the order for another ultrasound scanner for the Maternity Clinic.
The new ultrasound scanner - worth 32,000 Euros - with 3D imaging heads is expected to arrive at the hospital by the end of October and will greatly improve the services provided in the Maternity Clinic.
Having thanked Corfu Port Authority for this collaboration, we expect the same of the incoming Board - to the benefit of members of the Corfu public."
