Car-free day in Corfu

car-free day
18 Sep 2019 / 12:30

CORFU. European Mobility Week, a campaign that began in 2002, started on 16 September.

This European initiative encourages cities and towns to introduce and promote sustainable transport and invite citizens to try alternative means of transport instead of the car.

Each year the campaign focusses on a special theme related to sustainable urban mobility.

This year's theme is "Walk with us!", highlighting walking as a 'means of transport' that is frequently undervalued. Walking and cycling are the most active forms of getting around and are vitally important for the future of our towns throughout Europe. This year's campaign encourages people to choose these active means of getting around or to combine walking and cycling with public transport. As well as flexibility, walking and cycling offer many other benefits - social and economic availability, reliability, zero emissions and good for the health.

The Municipality of Central Corfu is playing an active role and contributing to sustainable urban mobility with a symbolic 'Car-free Day'. The following roads will be for the exclusive use of pedestrians, cyclists or public transport:

Sof. Dousmmani, Agon. Polytechnio, Dimokratias Ave. (up to Desylla junction), Mitr. Athanasiou, Zavitsianou, Donzelot, Arseniou.

Car-free Day will be on Sunday 22 September from 10:00 to 14:00.
