CORFU. The new Mayor of Central Corfu & the Diapontia Islands said, "We are not going to turn the Municipality into an arena for party politics with fruitless confrontations..."
The political party Kerkyraion Dimos - Nea Archi (Fresh Start) led by the new Mayor Meropi Ydraiou issued the following statement:
"We completely respect the views of all the democratic political parties in the Town Council. However, for us there are no political parties...there is only Corfu
We are not going to turn the Municipality into an arena for party politics with fruitless confrontations. Meropi Ydraiou and the new local authority will never get involved in something like that.
The Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands has much more serious problems to deal with - the public wants solutions to their everyday problems and this is the priority of the new local authority.
The local authority is obliged to work within the current legal framework whether it has been established by the previous government or the current one.
Meropi Ydraiou believes in agreement and cooperation between all the parties and will put this into practice.
This will begin with new regulations for the functioning of the Town Council which will be democratic, will guarantee the rights of all the parties and will be a result of dialogue and agreement.
This will be followed by the participation of all the parties in a Consultation Committee. The Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands is making a fresh start."
