CORFU. The hospital has acquired a new CAD (Computer-Aided Detection)system.
The system has already been installed and is operating in the hospital's new digital mammogram machine, which it acquired in 2017.
The CAD is a support system which helps the doctor by indicating 'suspicious areas' and helping to locate features that are linked with tumours - thus facilitating timely diagnoses of various forms of cancer, especially during screening tests.
With the aid of diagnostic algorithms the CAD system acts as an additional 'eye' during examination by the computer, thus helping the radiologist in their job. Nothing extra is required of the patient beyond the normal mammography procedure and she is not exposed to extra radiation.
