The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre has revised the strength of yesterday's earthquake to 4.5 on the Richter Scale.
The epicentre was located in the sea 34km south of the island and had a depth of 46km. The earthquake took place just before 17:00 with a short duration and was felt in South Corfu and Corfu Town.
Efthimios Lekkas, professor of Geology and Natural Disasters at Athens University and President of the Earthquake Planning & Protection Organisation, was cautious when talking to enikos.gr.
He said that the tremor came from peripheral faults at the edge of the plate and couldn't say for certain if it was the main earthquake - they will be monitoring developments.
