CORFU. The President of SYDISA (Solid Waste Management Association) Spyros Aspiotis was taken to appear before the Magistrate΄s Court yesterday.

Following the filing of three lawsuits, he was summoned to appear before the court and came in voluntarily. The lawsuits were filed by the two Temploni residents' associations following the depositing of waste bales at the cell in Temploni landfill which has been sealed off by order of the Regional Governor. The SYDISA President was released by order of the Prosecutor.

Spyros Aspiotis told Enimerosi that the 160 bales that had been deposited there have already been removed and put in the area for interim management. He said, "Despite the war against me, I am committed to Corfu society which appointed me. I am never going to leave the waste unmanaged. There is nowhere else for it to go and we are continuing to take in the refuse produced by everyone."

In the next few days the Association is expecting to receive a temporary licence to use a small 2-stremma area to deposit more waste.
