ATHENS. There will be a heavy price to pay for taxi, bus, professional and private drivers smoking at the wheel.
Professional drivers and all those using taxis are now obliged to control their smoking habit.

With the new anti-smoking legislation public transport drivers face fines of 1,500€ and loss of their licence for one month. If there are any children under the age of 12 in the vehicle, then the fine is increased to 3,000€.
For those smoking in a private car if there is a child under 12 in the vehicle, there is a fine of 1,500€ - regardless of whether the smoker is the driver or a passenger. The driver will lose his/her licence even if a passenger is smoking.
The legislation also applies to e-cigarettes and all tobacco products.
