CORFU. Expansion in oncological treatment areas - new cytostatics drugs dialysis unit.
The new Oncology Unit has opened at Corfu Hospital (day-patient unit) on the 3rd floor.
The Hospital Administration said that the move creates more space for the treatment of patients and increases the number of beds from 8 to 16 in addition to special hospitalisation spaces.
Along with the relocation of the Day-Patient Unit a completely new Cytostatics Drugs Dialysis Unit was set up and is now operational. This is a new unit for the dialysis of the drugs used for oncological and other special treatments in a specially constructed area of the clinic.
The cost of the Dialysis Unit was 45,000 Euros and brings Corfu Hospital completely in line with recent regulations regarding the dialysis of these drugs. From now on the dialysis will take place under negative pressure with an antechamber with positive pressure, thus safeguarding the health of employees and patients even more. Corfu is one of the first regional hospitals to have a complete dialysis unit for these drugs.
The two laminar flow chambers already belonging to the hospital have been installed here and are now operational. The second of these, which had been out of commission since 2015, is now operational once again following repairs carried out 8 months ago due to the fault in the sole - at that time - chamber which had led to problems with chemotherapy treatment for 10 days.
With the operation of both laminar flow chambers in the new Cytostatics Drugs Dialysis Unit the hospital now has the most modern dialysis equipment ensuring that treatment will not be interrupted for technical reasons. There will also be more space and beds for patients.
