CORFU. The Archaeological Service has sent a letter to the Municipality, related administrative services, businesses, police and other services requesting that heavy vehicles be banned from the historical centre throughout the year.

According to reliable sources, it has been requested on numerous occasions, as confirmed by a recent meeting on the subject at the Archaeological Service office. The reasons it cites are traffic congestion and the fact that the coaches parked between the squares and the Old Fortress hide the view of the latter.

Sources at the local authority, following the meeting to agree on special traffic measures for the Easter period, said that the 2017 plan to relieve the town of heavy vehicles lists alternative parking areas at the port, the former KTEL bus station and the National Sports Centre and the use of the 'Lyrikou' and the Brotherhood Charity land in Koulines is also being discussed.
