Corfu Hospital: Recruitment of two new doctors approved - cardiologist and paediatrician

CORFU. The Hospital Administration has announced that it will be recruiting for the following positions:
1. Junior cardiology registrar
- This will be the 5th permanent position in the cardiology clinic.
- There are already 5 cardiologists at the hospital (4 permanent and 1 auxiliary) and there is one vacant position for an auxuliary doctor (no applications have been made yet).
- This additional appointment will strengthen the clinic's ability to deal with cases.
- The filling of the vacant cardiology positions (1 permanent and 1 auxiliary) along with the new equipment which is in the process of being added will allow the further development of the clinic and the heart attack unit.
2. Junior paediatric registrar
- This will be the 5th permanent position in the paediatric clinic which three years ago had only 2 permanent paediatricians and was in danger of closing. It removes the danger of closure in an island hospital with no alternative solutions.
- There are already 5 paediatricians at the hospital (4 permanent and 1 auxiliary) and there is one vacant position for an auxuliary doctor (no applications have been made yet).
- The filling of the vacant paediatric positions (1 permanent and 1 auxiliary) will not only strengthen the clinic as mentioned above but will also allow the further development of the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit if the doctor appointed is a specialist in this field.
The assessment procedure is already in progress for the following positions: 5 permanent doctors in the Emergency Department, 1 permanent oncologist and 1 permanent pathologist. It is expected that these will also be appointed this year.
Finally, the following positions will shortly be re-advertised: 2 permanent psychiatrists and 1 permanent pathology director.
