CORFU. The programme of events to celebrate Independence Day on 25th March.

Friday 22nd

- Talks at primary and secondary schools on the importance of the anniversary and flags to be flown in schools.
- 12:00 - Laying of wreaths at the Heroes Monument in Corfu Town by students, school pupils, scouts and guides led by teachers. Participation of Philharmonic Band.

Other celebrations

- Flags will be flown from 08:00 on the 23rd until sundown on the 25th.
- Public buildings and banks will be lit up at night on 24th and 25th March.
- Flags will be flown and ships in port will be lit up.

Monday 25th

07:30 - Philharmonic Bands play marches in the central streets of Corfu Town. Joyful bell-ringing at all churches.
08:00 - Raising of the flag at the New Fortress with the participation of Philharmonic Bands and the Armed Forces.
Official guests arrive at the church at 10:55.
11:00 - Doxology at the Metropolitan Church Spilaiotisis led by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands. Formal presentation by Spyros Pachis.
11:30 - Memorial Service and laying of wreaths at the Heroes Monument with the Government representative, the Ionian Islands Regional Governor, the Mayor, Armed Forces Chief and other representatives.
12:15 - The Government representative, the Regional Governor and the Mayor of Corfu will lay wreaths at the statue of Ioannis Capodistrias.
12:30 - Parade along Agoniston Polytechnio St. with disabled war veterans, students, pupils, scouts, guides, armed forces, police, coastguard, fire service and border guards accompanied by Corfu, 'Mantzaros', 'Spyros Samaras' and 'Capodistrias' Philharmonic Bands.
18:40 - Lowering of the flag at the New Fortress.
