CORFU. The 2nd Attic Salon will be taking place on Wednesday 13 February at the Attic Gallery.
The theme is "The Salons of the Rose+Cross and the artists who tried to change the world" and the hostess will be Dr. Sasha Chaitow.
This is a relaxed gathering in which to discuss and explore a wide range of cultural issues and questions. We begin with a short talk to set the theme for that evening, which may include illustrations or a pop-up exhibit. The Hostess, and any guest speakers, develop the dialogue, and then open the discussion to the floor. The tone is cordial and collegial with the prospect of sharing creative ideas; intellectual inspiration, and even developing future collaborations.
2nd Attic Salon - Topic
The salon focuses on a circle of artists active at the threshold of the 20th century who reacted against Modernism and the passing of the world they knew. With art and idealism as their only weapons they tried to fight the social revolution which would bring about a renaissance in society and the human spirit.
The richly illustrated presentation will give a synopsis of the background, ideas, attitudes and artistic identity of this artistic movement. The discussion will then be open to the audience with questions coming up from the presentation.
