Attic Gallery: Lecture and Masterclass from Madeleine Scott-Spencer

The Attic Gallery is organising two rare events for lovers of modern cinema on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 May. For the first time in Greece the award-winning artist Madeleine Scott- Spencer, who has created monsters and other creatures for films such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and Wonderwoman, will be giving a public lecture and a masterclass for film industry students and professionals.

Friday 3rd: Digital Sculpting in the Film Industry
19:30 – 20:45

In this one hour lecture Madeleine Scott-Spencer shares stories and tops from her experience working on major blockbuster films as a creature and character artist. Madeleine will discuss her education, arts background, as well as tips on how she got into the industry for students trying to become professional artists. She will share personal works and discuss some fundamental artistic tips to keep in mind when creating creatures for film. This is an hour lecture with slides.

Saturday 4th: Masterclass - Creature design and sculpting
15:00 - 19:00

In this creature design and sculpting workshop, Madeleine will demonstrate a full creature design workflow from initial sculpture to final Photoshop paint-over concept painting. We will discuss sculpture techniques as well as fundamental tenets such as form and anatomy. She will show her custom brush sets and discuss exclusive sculpting techniques she uses to make the most compelling creature designs.

In the second half of the lecture we will see how to render and paint images out of ZBrush. Photoshop and ZBrush tools and techniques will be shown in depth. Madeleine will demonstrate a full workflow to create a compelling creature design just as she does for major motion pictures. Places extremely limited. Certificates of attendance will be given.

Το εξειδικευμένο τετράωρο εργαστήριο το Σάββατο 4 Μαΐου, 15:00-19:00, απευθύνεται σε φοιτητές κι επαγγελματίες κάθε επιπέδου που ασχολούνται με την παραγωγή ψηφιακής εικόνας και animation. Η Madeleine Scott-Spencer θα παρουσιάσει όλη τη διαδικασία σχεδιασμού πλασμάτων από την αρχική ψηφιακή γλυπτική έως το τελικό concept painting. Θα συζητήσει τεχνικές γλυπτικής, ανατομίας και μορφοποίησης, ενώ θα αποκαλύψει τις αποκλειστικές τεχνικές γλυπτικής που ανέπτυξε η ίδια για να δημιουργήσει τα γνώριμα, μαγικά πλάσματα της μεγάλης οθόνης. Στη συνέχεια ακολουθεί η διαδικασία σχεδιασμού πλασμάτων όπως ακριβώς την εκτελεί για τις μεγάλες παραγωγές, και στη διάρκεια του εργαστηρίου οι συμμετέχοντες θα σχεδιάσουν, με την καθοδήγηση της Madeleine, το δικό τους φανταστικό πλάσμα.
