Leading Japanese pianist Hideyo Harada coming to Corfu

Ionian Academy
03 Feb 2019 / 11:00

CORFU. The leading Japanese pianist Hideyo Harada is a lover of Corfu΄s musical tradition since the performances at San Giacomo in the 18th century.

Following her appearance at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart, Germany and before her 2-month tour of Japan Hideyo will stop off in Corfu to give a performance.

She will be coming to Corfu where since 2010 Lambis Vasiliadis, through the Corfu International Festival, has been passing on to students at the Ionian University Music Department the deeper techniques of piano playing. Both Harada and Vasiliadis are students of the great artist Viktor Merzhanov and having learnt the secrets of the Russian school inspire students to make their dream a reality.

Students, post-graduates and young soloists make up the Corfu 'core' who, under the guidance of Lambis Vasiliadis and Hideyo Harada, are raising the level of musicianship at the Ionian University and honouring Corfu's musical history.

Gramophone magazine considers Harada's playing to rival that of Mikhail Pletnev and her recent recording with Kreisleriana playing works by Schumann - which she will perform at the Ionian Academy - was considered by International Piano Magazine to be comparable to Vladimir Horowitz and Μurray Perahia.

Hideyo Harada will be giving a piano recital with works by Schumann, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich at the Ionian Academy on Friday 8 February at 20:30.

Tickets are 5€ and proceeds will go to help develop the core of young artists in Corfu. Youngsters who will have an international career but were first 'applauded' in Corfu.
