CORFU. For the first time in Corfu, an exhibition of heraldry by Ioannis Vlazakis - one of the 5 most important heraldic artists worldwide.
The fact that artists such as Ioannis Vlazakis even exist in the digital age, and that they apparently swim against the tide of technological progress by insisting on the loyal and integral preservation of these techniques, underpins the power of heraldry’s substance, built on timeless values and a noble respect for the Beautiful.
This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover and enjoy a very particular genre of art at close quarters; one that links our time to much older traditions and values. Vlazakis follows medieval recipes and techniques closely to prepare his colours from their raw materials, and his works are gilded with 23 carat gold which he prepares for use himself.
The exhibition features family crests and shields from Corfu, Rhodes, as well as Europe, alongside other works by Vlazakis.
Opening: Saturday 19 January at 19:30 - The artist will be present for the opening and the exhibition is being held under the aegis of the Hellenic Heraldic and Genealogical Society.
Duration: Saturday 19/1 - Thursday 31/1
Opening times: Tuesday - Sunday 12:00 - 21:00
