CORFU. The replacement of Deputy Mayor for Cleansing Services Spyros Aspiotis after 3 years was announced at the Town Council meeting on Monday.

The leader of the main opposition party Meropi Ydraiou asked the Mayor to brief the Council on the decision which was announced on Monday morning in a press release.

In reply, the Mayor said: "Mr. Aspiotis had a huge responsibility as Deputy Mayor for Cleansing Services and as President of the Solid Waste Management Association (SYDISA) with continuous difficulties and complications. He himself asked me to lighten his load and this happened with our mutual agreement. I had asked other colleagues if they could take on part of this huge load and Mr. Kaloudis accepted.

I would like to publicly thank Mr. Aspiotis for his efforts - he had a tremendous responsibility, which few of us have taken on, under extremely difficult conditions in reality and psychologically and which few people could bear easily. I would like to give him heartfelt thanks and wish the new Deputy Mayor all the best in his task.."

The former Deputy Mayor Spyros Aspiotis said, "There were mistakes and failures, but they weren't deliberate."

Mr. Aspiotis also thanked the Mayor for his cooperation over these last three years, saying: "I did whatever I could to the best of my ability. There were mistakes and failures, but they weren't deliberate. My hands are clean. I did what I could."
