CORFU. Pupils, parents and teachers from Kassiopi went to the Town Hall to find a solution.

Following yesterday's events in North Corfu - the pupils' protest and the fire in Kouloura which broke out in a huge pile of rubbish - the local authority has begun immediately to collect refuse.

This morning a delegation of pupils, parents and teachers from Kassiopi Secondary School had a meeting with the Mayor of Corfu Kostas Nikolouzos in order to try and find a solution to the problem with the piles of rubbish that have collected near to the school. Pupils have not been attending classes since yesterday (9 October).

They received assurances from the Municipality that within a week at the latest the refuse will have been collected - work has already begun - and the area will be disinfected. In collaboration with the local council, the Cleansing Services will decide where the refuse bins should be located.

The Deputy Mayors for Cleansing Services Spyros Aspiotis and Education Stamatis Apergis were also present at the meeting.
