CORFU. The producers of South African ΄Tropical Island of Treasure΄ were impressed by the island΄s coastline.
Following collaboration between the Ionian Islands Regional Administration, the Greek National Tourist Organization (EOT) and the Greek Consulate in Johannesburg, a team of five from South Africa visited Corfu on 8 and 9 September to find suitable filming locations for 'Tropical Island of Treasure'.
The programme is similar to Survivor and has players from South Africa competing to win the prize of 1 million Rands (approx. 66,660 Euros). This will be the 9th series - the 8th was filmed in the Maldives and got the country's second highest viewing figures. It is broadcast on the channel SABC3 which is in English and Afrikaans.
The five members of the team that came to Corfu were: Miantha Padayachee – Marketing Manager, Darryl Roux, Bradley van den Berg – Executive Producer/COO of ‘Cardova Productions’, Τrevor Sumner and Michelle Sansom – Sponsorship Manager/Producer.
They were shown the west coast of Corfu - Halikouna, Isos (cedar forest, lagoon and beach), Gardeno, Arkoudila, Liapades, Rovinia and finally Palaiokastritsa. They said they were impressed by the locations and if Corfu is chosen, the filming will go ahead in autumn 2019.
According to the press release issued by the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Spyros Galiatsatos, the Foreign Ministry, EOT and the Regional Administration consider that if the island is chosen, it will be an excellent opportunity to promote Corfu in the South African market.
