Ferry boat El.Venizelos now listing - fire continues for second day

PIRAEUS. Fire broke out on board early on Wednesday morning.
The fire aboard the ship 'Eleftherios Venizelos', which broke out on the car deck 8 nautical miles off the islet of Agios Giorgios, has still not been extinguished.
The ship returned to Piraeus Port at about 04:00 on Wednesday morning and once it had docked firefighters helped the 875 passengers off the ship - an operation that took until just after 07:00.
At the moment nobody can say exactly when the fire will be extinguished - firefighters are saying that there are temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius on the ship. There is, however, great concern because the vessel has started to list dangerously. Tugboats attempted to right it and firefighters opened holes above the waterline for the water to escape.
