CORFU. Following a 2-week wait for the Marine Ministry to replace the ΄Alexandros΄.

The Diapontia Islands received basic necessities and water today after two weeks without a car ferry due to mechanical problems with the 'Alexandros' ferry boat which normally carries goods and vehicles to and from Corfu Port.

Whilst waiting for the Marine Ministry to replace the 'Alexandros', which is expected to remain out of service until the end of July, Corfu Municipality sent basic necessities (drinking water) with the regular waste collection vessel and also took vehicles which had been stuck there off the islands.

The Municipal ship loaded up overnight with basic necessities - mainly drinking water - and set off from Corfu at 06:00 this morning with Deputy Mayors Noni Mastora for Mathraki, Loukanaris for Othoni and Andreas Goulis for Erikoussa.

Deputy Mayor Noni Mastora told Enimerosi that the Marine Ministry will probably provide a solution for the car ferry service in the coming week.

Foot passengers are able to use the 'Pegasus' ferry boat from Agios Stefanos in North Corfu.
