CORFU. After the eggs had been laid, people who had witnessed the scene - young and old - put up a protective ΄fence΄ around the nest.
A turtle, approximately 60 kg in weight, appeared on the beach at Agios Georgios Argyradon on Monday evening to prepare the sand and lay her eggs. The preparation of the nest took about an hour and then the turtle laid approximately 40 eggs.
She then covered them carefully with sand and went back into the sea.
Bathers on the beach were fortunate enough to witness the whole process and afterwards set up a protective 'fence' with a sign on it.
The incubation period is about 2 months and it is our responsibility to respect the process.
