CORFU. By the early hours of the morning the 6 board members from Temploni Cultural Society had completed their statements after having been detained for entering the landfill unlawfully.

At around 9pm on Monday night they entered the facility, despite the fact that it was prohibited, to confirm, as they told Enimerosi, whether there had been illegal dumping of waste behind the cells as they had been informed by local residents.

The landfill security guard called the police, who came quickly to the scene and asked the board members to go with them to the police station to 'give evidence'. They gave their statements and in the early hours of the morning the Society members were released by order of the Prosecutor.

Society President Magda Papanikolopoulou declared that they intended to press charges against Corfu Municipality and the Cleansing Services for depositing and collecting waste in the composting area next to the baler - the so-called 'fourth mountain' that was created when the operation of the three cells stopped, following the court verdict.

As the Society President has said continuously since then, "Whatever happens from now on will happen according to the law."
