On Sunday night a small explosive device was thrown into Lefkimmi police station by persons unknown.
According to police sources, the explosive device was thrown into the toilet through an open window at the back of the building and the ensuing explosion caused the door to come off its hinges. The person(s) responsible managed to get away.

According to the police, there is a lot of tension in the area and there are frequent small 'episodes' involving the police and the public. On Sunday night, following the demonstration, there were two or three incidents as the police returned to their base and chemicals had to be used.
There are concerns that the situation cannot go on for much longer - not only because of the charged atmosphere but also because of the cost of keeping the riot police here - over 25.000 Euros a day.
