CORFU. The Ionian University Department of Audio & Visual Arts is presenting the thesis work of student Christos Mavrodis as part of the 12th Festival of Audiovisual Arts.

The Ionian University Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with Corfu Municipal Art Gallery, is presenting the thesis work of student Christos Mavrodis as part of the 12th Festival of Audiovisual Arts.

Based on personal experiences and feelings of varying intensity, Christos Mavrodis visualizes ‘inner’ images and thoughts, using various visual references. From the expressionistic and vivid simplicity of Georg Bazelitz and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the display of characters with pop elements (Yoshitomo Nara), to the use of illustratory elements of cinema posters, cartoons and music disc covers (Stanley Donwood).

A work can be inspired by song lyrics, an interesting colour palette, the panel of a comic or even a Francis Bacon painting. Nevertheless, it is the creative process that is the driving force in all instances. The artist says, “Like everyone else, I hide and carry a world of images within me. What I do is ‘display’ them, so that I can ‘see’ them better”.

The exhibition - ‘KID #22’ - the first personal exhibition of the artist and his thesis work, opened on Wednesday 30th May 2018 in the Art Hall (People’s Garden).
