Four new departments for the Ionian University - one on each island

The Minister for Education presented the Parliamentary Bill for the consolidation of the Ionian Islands College and the Ionian University to the two Rectors so that it can be discussed by the Senate of both institutions. It will then be opened up to public debate.

The Minister said that the Ionian University will have a presence on all the islands and four new departments will be set up:

1. Department of Tourism in Corfu

2. Department of Ethnomusicology in Lixouri, Cephalonia

3. Department of Environmental Studies in Zakynthos

4. Department of Regional Development in Lefkada
