CORFU. Decision of the Association΄s General Assembly at which the Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Tsoukas was also present.
Corfu olive press owners held a general assembly at Corfu Port last Sunday to discuss the legislation which requires them to have storage tanks for waste/sediment which will then be sent to processing facilities. President of the olive press owners, Socrates Kritikos, told ERT (public TV & Radio Company) Corfu that he accepted that waste ended up in gutters during the winter and in ditches in the summer.
The Association's general assembly, at which Deputy Regional Governor Mr. Tsoukas was also present, decided that efforts should be made to secure credit of 5 million Euros from the Ministry to build a facility in Corfu, to be privately managed, for the processing and conversion of waste from the olive presses into fertiliser - thus reinforcing the so-called circular economy.
