CORFU. Programme of events for Friday 11th – Sunday 13th May.

Friday 11th May
 
09:00: Chefs Tour
The Festival will take the distinguished guest, chefs and journalists to the sights of the island. A day trip that combines the introduction to Corfiot nature, history and products of the place. The tour is also available to selected guests.
 
12:00: Sheperd’s Pie@Starenio
This traditional bakery that twenty years now offers high quality food the family tables of Corfu, participates in the festival with a big surprise. Starenio is famous for its homemade pies based on grandma’s recipes using only Corfiot materials.
Especially for the Festival Nikos, the owner chooses to create an exceptional version of shepherd’s pie, enriched with Mediterranean ingredients wrapped in corfiot pastry.
From Thursday to Sunday you can enjoy this special shepherd’s pie, combined with fresh local beer.
 
13:00: Tsipouro@Pergola
Get initiated into afternoon tsipouro drinking with a selection of mezes (traditional snacks) - a variety of spring tastes and flavours.
 
20:00: From Peru to Corfu via Ural@Kontokali Bay
The prominent Russian chef Rashid Rakhmanov meets the Corfu chef Spiros
Voulismas and together map an outstanding journey – distillation of the
world gastronomy.

At this classic restaurant in Corfu old town, Yiorgos Kentrotis, Professor of the Ionian University, reads a selection of poems from ancient Greek literature about wine and well-being in Modern Greek and English translation, directed by Petros Gallias.
 
20:00: European Silk Road – Venezia to Corfu@Marina’s Taverna
The famous Venetian chef Giuseppe Galardi, owner of the traditional Osteria Ai Assassini in the heart of Venice close to San Marco Square, explores Venetian influences of Corfu to present dishes inspired by the shared culture of the two nations. The event is co-organised with Marco Polo System, a European group with twenty years’ experience in implementing European and in particular Mediterranean cultural projects, in the framework of MedTaste, a pilot action of the international European Silk Road network.

22:0: A geography of tastes at Akamatra
A mellow selection of wine and tsipouro from all over Greece. ‘Akamatra’ serves these along with a special selection of dishes at the tsipouro snack tavernas in Prosalendou Street, behind Corfu Old Port.

 
Saturday 12th May
 
11:00: International Culinary Get-Together in the Palace Gardens
For a meal based on Homeric Cuisine.
 
13:00: British Walk
Covering parts of the old town which clearly show British influence as well as points of British culinary interest.The British Embassy chef will taste the Corfu version of the traditional British shepherd’s pie’ at the Starenio and will cook fish & chips at Pane e Psaraki at Pentofanaro.
