CORFU. The Central Corfu Action Committee and Temploni Cultural Society announced that they are continuing to block access to vehicles coming to illegally dump refuse at the landfill facility.

Joint Statement

We wish to state that we are continuing to block access to vehicles coming to illegally dump refuse anywhere in the landfill facility - something which has been going on despite our continued complaints to the Corfu Prosecutor. Bearing in mind the difficult position that it would put Corfu in if we blockaded the whole facility, we have chosen this form of action to show up the incompetence and inability of the authorities to manage the waste according to their plans, including interim management and baling.

We wish to condemn the fact that we are in the 5th day of our action and the baler is completely inoperative with the surrounding area full of waste despite the Municipality's false claim that it is in operation. We would like to inform our fellow residents that whatever the consequences for the island of having the landfill facility kept open, it will not be our fault.

We are continuing our action with our well-established demands.
