Corfu Police issue statement regarding 56-year-old woman’s death

CORFU. A 60-year-old man has been arrested for the fatal wounding of the woman along with two other people for senseless shooting.

Police arrested a 60-year-old Greek man last night (Sunday 22nd) along with other Greeks aged 41 and 31 on separate charges of manslaughter, illegal possession and use of weapons and unnecessary shooting.

Yesterday evening at a social event which the 60-year-old man had organized in Ag. Ioannis in Corfu he fatally wounded his friend, a 56-year-old Greek woman, with a pistol which went off.

It has been ascertained from the investigation up to this time that during the event several shots were fired unnecessarily by the 60-year-old and the 56-year-old victim as well as by the other two arrested persons (41-year-old and 31-year-old) who were at the event.

During the investigation the 60-year-old man handed over to the police the 7.65 diameter pistol (unknown make) with which he had shot the woman along with one magazine and five cartridges of the same diameter.

The following were also found in the 60-year-old’s house and confiscated during a search conducted in the presence of a court official:

- 1 Walther 9mm pistol with 1 magazine

- 1 Mauser 7.65 pistol with 1 magazine

- 1 non-functioning Royala 7.65 pistol

- 159 gun cartridges of various diameters

Corfu Police has carried out interrogations and the persons arrested will be taken to appear before the Prosecutor.
