Bidding process completed for hydrocarbons exploitation in Ionian Sea and Crete
Bids from Repsol-ELPE (Hellenic Petroleum) for the Ionian block and Total-ExxonMobil-ELPE in Crete.
The international tender has been completed for the concession of hydrocarbon exploratory and exploitation rights in the marine area west and north-west of Crete as well as the Ionian Sea. Bids were received for the Crete block from the consortium Total-ExxonMobil-ELPE and for the Ionian block from the consortium Repsol-ELPE.
The Minister for Environment and Energy, Giorgos Stathakis commented, “The interest of significant Groups in hydrocarbon exploration in Greece’s marine areas is a vote of confidence in the country’s economic prospects and its role as a stabilizing influence in the South-east Mediterranean.”
The bids will now be assessed by the Greek Hydrocarbon Management Company (EDEY) and based on this the Minister of Environment and Energy will announce the successful applicants.
