Corfu Mayor: Planting flowers in the potholes is an insult to the Municipality
CORFU. Responding to Ms Ydraiou, who criticized his response to the ‘Plant flowers in potholes’ movement, the mayor defended it in front of the town council by saying...
...that it was “an insult to the institution of local authority. Perhaps I responded strongly, but it is not just an insult to me but to the municipality.”
The action taken by the ‘Your Complaints to the Mayor’ movement provoked an immediate reaction from the mayor. “I don’t understand how these people, who have every right to protest, can’t understand the current situation of the town and island and the effect of the rainfall and other adverse weather conditions on a run-down road network that for decades has been under tremendous strain.
Because we are all local citizens – which means contributing to whatever is good for the town – I don’t see this action as being a protest but just as a ‘sneering’ insult to the municipality.”
